Just the Facts

WhoPhoto of Illustrator, Serena Andrews

DreamIt! Illustration is the illustration branch of Tree Kangaroo Creative. It was founded by Serena Andrews, who is the principal illustrator & president of TKC.

Serena is a multimedia artist originally from Maine, but she has called Providence, RI home now for 12 years. In school, she studied music performance and filmmaking as well as painting and visual arts. She has been drawing since the age of 4, and has been selling illustrations and commissioned works since 1994.

What

Dream It! Illustration is dedicated to making your ideas and fancies a reality though illustrative works. This could be a spokescharacter, portrait, abstract image, spot illustration for a paper or article, or full on pieces of artwork representing your idea or message. We do many media styles... both digital and "analog" including but not limited to: vector art, painting with acrylic or watercolor, colored pencil, drawings in pen or pencil, oil stick, photographic collage and more.

When

Tree Kangaroo Creative (our parent company) was born with all ten toes and fingers on January 1, 2008. In the beginning TKC offered music, video, illustration, design and project management services, all as a part of one business. However, we wanted to give special attention to each area of our services, which brings us to Dream It! Illustration.

On our one year anniversary in January of 2009, we decided to create proper divisions for the remaining 3 areas of service, and give them names, love, and each a website of their own. Now TKC is comprised of Design Good Times (digital design), Dream It! Illustration (digital and hand illustration services), and Custom Songs Online (songwriting and audio services). Aww! A lovely family.

Where

RI StatehouseDream It! Illustration is headquartered in the Smith Hill area of Providence, RI, in the lovely home office of Serena Andrews.

As a designer, Serena is also a proud member of AS220's Design Providence, a cottage industry for designers located in the Dreyfus Building on Washington St, down town Providence. The studio there is equipped with a meeting area and ample presentation space.

Why

Illustration is a vital tool and awesome solution when a person or business needs to represent an idea or concept visually. For some ideas, a staged photo shoot is too costly, or difficult to create, whereas illustration can reach into the abstract with ease. That's why we are called "Dream It!" ...The idea is that if you can dream it up, we can draw it up.

How

As a part of Tree Kangaroo Creative, our parent company, Dream It! Illustration is committed to green business practices, buying local, accessibility and keeping it real. We are hosted on DreamHost which is a carbon neutral hosting service, we use minimal paper and energy, and we even use public transit when possible! We are a part of a community, and that's how we would like to keep it!

We use current Mac Intel computers and Adobe Creative Suite to create digital illustrations, and use as much natural light and as little resources as possible in our studio.

Our process for getting work done is totally, and we mean totally custom to your project. We have a method, but the most important part of that method is listening to our clients and we plan together with you to get your project right!

Services

You dream it up, we'll draw it up!

Our specialty is creating illustrations that say what you mean.

Here's a complete list of our services:

Vector Art

In order to look both fabulous and professional, you need illustrations with perfect lines and no fuzzy, yucky-looking pixels. Vector art is created using a number of different design applications (I personally use Illustrator CS3). Instead of using millions of little specks, or “pixels” of color to make a whole image, vectors use math to make outlines and then fill them in with colors, textures or gradients. The result can be technical, cartoony, or realistic in appearance.

What this means for you? Scalability, small file sizes and exquisite print results. This isn’t the place for a vector tutorial, but let’s just say that a single vector can be reduced to fit your letterhead or enlarged to fit a billboard—no problem!

Character Design

“Spokescharacters” are meant to embody the attitude and style of a company, group or organization. They are usually independent of the logo, but sometimes they are one and the same. I love to create characters for any reason, so if you would like to put a face on your company or product and have an idea for a character trapped in your imagination, call me and set it free! I also create characters independent of ad campaigns that can be marketed or sold.

Portraiture

The types of portraiture I offer range from simple line drawings to complex drawings or portraits on canvas or board. I can also render a digital portrait or two. I prefer to meet the portrait’s subject (person being depicted) to figure out his or her essence, but I can also create portraits based on photos.

Please note that I don’t do oil paintings, just acrylic and mixed media. If the portrait is based on a photo, the size of the person's head in the original photo must be 2 inches by 2 inches or more—no camera phone pics unless they’re blown up and printed out. If you have only a digital photo, you may send it to me and I determine whether a portrait can be made from the image.

Depending on their complexity, portraits can be turned around anywhere from one week to two months. Please call for more information!

Freehand / Spot Illustrations

Cartoon-like drawings in pencil, pen or sharpie are my specialty for spot illustration. However, small paintings, digital illustrations and colored pencil drawings are also a possibility. I prefer to charge a flat rate paid half up front and half on delivery for spot illustration. Other freehand illustration styles include pencil, pen, chalk, digital, or hybrid (drawn/digital) artwork of just about anything.

Painting

Small sized paintings (less than 11X17 in size) in acrylic, oilstick, mixed media or watercolor can often do the trick, adding dimension, texture and style to your presentation whether digital or in print. Paintings are done to your specifications by commission, and are delivered to you either as an original or as a digital file. (Photography costs generally not included, unless arranged in writing.)
